The bank reported diluted earnings per share of $4.97, or $5.09 on an adjusted basis, reflecting a resilient performance despite the impact of integration costs linked to its FirstBank acquisition. Average loans reached $372.2 billion, a 2% increase driven by robust new production and higher utilization rates within commercial portfolios. This growth helped offset a 6% decline in fee income, which had been bolstered by elevated capital markets activity in the second quarter.
Efficiency remained a focal point for management, with the bank achieving a 57% efficiency ratio. While noninterest expense saw an 8% decrease from the second quarter, adjusted figures reveal a 3% decline, highlighting disciplined cost management. PNC maintained a solid capital position, reporting a CET1 capital ratio of 9.8%, and returned $1.4 billion to shareholders through dividends and stock repurchases. Chairman and CEO Bill Demchak noted that the institution’s strategy is successfully deepening its reach in key markets, providing a foundation for continued momentum into the final months of the year.
