Executive chef-proprietor Nutcha Phanthoupheng, a former nurse and cancer researcher, launched the 20-seat venue in 2021 to elevate the perception of Thai dining. By focusing on Royal Thai tasting menus and white-glove service, the restaurant has now captured Canada’s top culinary title for three consecutive years. The award, accepted in Montego Bay, places the Richmond destination alongside previous winners like The French Laundry and Le Bernardin.
Building on this momentum, owners Nutcha and John Phanthoupheng are expanding their presence in the Vancouver area. Following the launch of their casual concept MaKaam earlier this year, the duo plans to open two additional venues on Granville Island in summer 2027. These include Baan Baan, an Isaan-focused restaurant and bar, and Le KaNom, a cafe specializing in gluten-free and dairy-free Thai desserts.
