Recurrent Energy Commissions 200 MWp Solar Plant in Spain

Recurrent Energy has officially brought its 200 MWp Villameca solar project in the Castilla y León region online. This installation marks a critical step for the Canadian Solar subsidiary as it pushes toward a total operational capacity of 1 GW within the Spanish market by the end of 2026.

The Villameca facility is projected to generate 359,172 MWh of clean electricity annually, providing enough power for over 100,000 households. By displacing traditional energy sources, the plant aims to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 57,000 tons each year, an environmental impact comparable to removing 12,000 combustion-engine cars from the road.

This project follows the recent launch of the 426 MWp Rey Solar plant in Andalucía and precedes the upcoming connection of the 315 MWp Tordesillas site. CEO Dylan Marx noted that the milestone strengthens the firm's European footprint while highlighting a commitment to community integration and biodiversity. The site earned the UNEF Seal of Excellence for its sustainability standards, which include habitat restoration and specialized wildlife protection measures such as bat boxes and insect hotels.

Looking ahead, the company plans to hybridize the Villameca site with battery energy storage systems to bolster grid stability and further decarbonization. This strategy mirrors the recent deployment of the Montalto La Viola hybrid project in Italy, signaling a shift toward integrated storage solutions across the developer's European portfolio.
