Elanco Gains Momentum as Seasonal Parasite Threats Extend Year-Round

Warming climate patterns and longer allergy seasons are forcing a shift in the $18 billion global pet health market, prompting Elanco Animal Health to accelerate its commercial strategy. As tick and itch risks persist beyond traditional seasonal windows, the company is seeing increased demand for its specialized parasiticide and dermatology portfolio.

Elanco Gains Momentum as Seasonal Parasite Threats Extend Year-Round

Elanco reported that its U.S. Pet Health business is on track for high-single to low-double-digit growth in the second half of 2026. The company’s focus on year-round protection is paying off, with pricing gains in July and August outpacing those from the second quarter. According to CEO Jeff Simmons, the firm’s recent innovation cycle has successfully stabilized its legacy portfolio while driving share gains in competitive categories like dermatology and vaccines.

The shift in market dynamics is largely driven by environmental changes. With milder winters and extended growing seasons, parasites are thriving in regions previously considered low-risk. This has transformed pet health into a year-round necessity rather than a seasonal precaution. Bobby Modi, Executive Vice President of U.S. Pet Health, noted that pets are increasingly acting as a bridge for environmental health risks, moving pests directly into households. Consequently, Elanco is leveraging omnichannel distribution—including home delivery and auto-ship programs—to maintain compliance and ensure consistent care. In Europe, the company’s Zenrelia product has further underscored this success, capturing 10 share points during the first half of the year as pet owners prioritize long-term medical solutions over intermittent treatments.
