The engineering shift centers on a strategic placement of two MP20 battery packs behind the cabin, which adds approximately 356 kWh of capacity to the vehicle’s existing chassis-mounted power supply. This design accommodates standard European trailer combinations while maintaining the maneuverability required for complex transport routes. To further optimize efficiency, the system integrates with Scania’s extended front—a feature that reduces wind resistance and lowers energy consumption by up to 3 percent.
Lars Gustafsson, senior vice president of solutions management at Scania, noted that the breakthrough lies in balancing the competing demands of distance, weight, and charging speed. By allowing for a total vehicle length exceeding 16.5 meters, the setup ensures that operators do not have to sacrifice cargo space or trailer compatibility to achieve long-range electric performance. This approach aims to bring electrification to the most rigorous segments of the logistics industry, where traditional battery limitations previously rendered electric alternatives impractical.
