Situated adjacent to the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, the site utilizes approximately 360,000 AIKO 655 W dual-glass modules. These components, featuring a 24.2% mass-production efficiency, are engineered to withstand high-irradiance conditions while mitigating hotspot risks. By integrating this capacity, the mining operation expects to decouple its production from volatile fuel prices and tightening international carbon compliance requirements.
Beyond immediate operational gains, the project serves as a blueprint for decarbonizing remote industrial sites across the continent. Over a 30-year lifecycle, the installation is projected to generate 7.8 billion kWh of electricity, preventing roughly 78,800 tonnes of annual carbon emissions. This transition helps the DRC diversify its power grid, which has historically relied heavily on hydropower, and establishes a new delivery standard for large-scale renewable infrastructure in Africa.
