Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the two-day festival saw elite pitmasters vying for over $50,000 in prizes. The competition culminated in the crowning of Titans of BBQ as Grand Champion, a victory secured through rigorous evaluation of their brisket and chicken entries. Other notable category winners included Top Gun Barbecue for pork ribs and Smoked & Furious, who swept the steak and lamb categories. Beyond the competitive circuit, the event leaned into its theme, "American Cuisine Is World Cuisine," by hosting a sampling pavilion that featured delicacies from 15 countries, ranging from arepas to dumplings.
Pennsylvania Avenue hosted more than 50 live performances across six stages, showcasing the capital's signature go-go sound alongside reggae, salsa, and blues. The festival also served as a major platform for culinary personalities, with chefs like Richard Rosendale and Justin Rowland leading demonstrations. Between the competitive heat and the arrival of Nathan’s Famous champion Miki Sudo, the event underscored its dual role as both a serious sporting ground for pitmasters and a massive community draw. Organizers confirmed that planning for the 35th anniversary edition is already underway, with the event slated to return to the capital in June 2027.
