Anugal Launches Migration Initiative for SAP IDM Sunset

With the December 31, 2027, maintenance deadline for SAP Identity Management 8.0 looming, Myrtle Beach-based Anugal has launched a readiness campaign to help enterprises navigate the transition. The initiative targets the complex, often undocumented logic embedded in legacy identity frameworks that complicates standard platform replacement.

The primary hurdle for organizations is not the installation of new software but the untangling of decades of institutional knowledge. Custom provisioning scripts, role-based access controls, and segregation-of-duties protocols often exist without clear documentation, creating significant migration risks. Anugal aims to mitigate these gaps by utilizing an AI-assisted discovery phase designed to map existing workflows, identify orphaned accounts, and isolate excessive access permissions before the migration process begins.

Beyond technical hurdles, the transition forces a re-evaluation of licensing and governance structures. Because SAP IDM deployments often involve both SAP-specific and non-SAP systems, firms must distinguish between application-specific runtime rights and broader enterprise licensing needs. By auditing these dependencies early, Anugal claims it can reduce three-year total cost of ownership by 30–50% compared to traditional legacy migration methods.

"The deadline is not the hardest part of an SAP IDM migration. The logic nobody documented is," said Vignesh Ganesan, Head of Product at Anugal. The strategy shifts the focus from simple replacement to modernizing identity governance, extending beyond standard lifecycle management to incorporate AI-driven oversight for cloud, SaaS, and non-human identities.
