The project draws on research from Equimundo: Center for Masculinity & Social Justice, specifically the Man Box study. Findings from the US, UK, and Mexico revealed that individuals holding the most restrictive views of manhood are up to five times more likely to engage in bullying or sexual harassment. By embedding these lessons into a digital environment, the initiative aims to reach an estimated 43 million daily users under the age of 13.
Developed by Bad Ape in partnership with Equimundo, the adventure game challenges participants to navigate escalating social conflicts through communication rather than aggression. According to Koye Adeboye, head of communications for the UN Spotlight Initiative, the strategy acknowledges that gaming is now a primary space where young people form their worldview. Caroline Hayes of Equimundo noted that because harmful ideas about masculinity are often absorbed from surrounding culture, the game serves as a formative tool to demonstrate that respect and cooperation function as true expressions of strength.
