Iran Issues Direct Threat to Middle East Energy Infrastructure

If Iran cannot export oil, no other nation in the region will be permitted to do so either. Chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf issued this ultimatum on September 29, warning that unless Iranian security is guaranteed, regional energy infrastructure faces deliberate, widespread destruction.

The warning arrived as Tehran awaits a formal US response to a proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The plan, presented last week, seeks the lifting of the naval blockade on Iranian shipping and the removal of oil sanctions in exchange for restored transit and renewed nuclear negotiations. President Donald Trump has publicly dismissed these terms, though he indicated that further diplomatic discussions between the two nations may occur this week.

Simultaneously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps released a letter directed at American voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The document attempts to shift blame for the ongoing conflict onto Washington, asserting that the war, which began on February 28, has resulted in the deaths of 3,600 Iranians, including 400 children. While the letter admits that recent airstrikes have degraded Iran’s nuclear facilities and air defense capabilities, it maintains that the country's nuclear ambitions remain strictly civilian in nature. The US State Department has not yet provided comment on the communication.
