The project represents a shift in how tech firms approach power consumption. Rather than straining existing grids, Envision is building the Envision Galaxy Campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, to serve as a blueprint for localized energy production. The facility is designed to support over one million chips, scaling to 2GW of computing capacity while drawing electricity from renewable sources nearby. This model aims to transform historically remote areas into hubs for the AI era.
Mission Gobi, launched in June 2026, sets a goal of developing 5GW of green AI computing capacity by 2030. Lei Zhang, Founder and CEO of Envision, noted that the strategy seeks to push humanity toward a state of energy abundance rather than scarcity. By co-locating computing and energy infrastructure, the company intends to make the digital transition more affordable and sustainable. The recognition underscores Envision’s evolving focus, moving from standard renewable innovation in 2021 to the complex integration of heavy industrial computing and green hydrogen technologies today.
