Chainlink Integrates With Swift to Bridge Banks to Tokenized Ledgers

Financial institutions can now connect their internal signing infrastructure to Swift’s blockchain ledger through the Chainlink Runtime Environment. By enabling this link, Chainlink aims to facilitate 24/7 cross-border payments using tokenized deposits while allowing banks to maintain their existing security protocols and approval workflows.

The collaboration centers on a self-signing model that grants banks direct control over the keys used to authorize transactions. While the Chainlink Runtime Environment orchestrates the necessary workflows to interact with Swift’s digital platform, the actual tokenized deposits remain on the banks' own ledgers. This architecture allows institutions to coordinate the movement of funds across borders during weekends and overnight hours without abandoning their established settlement arrangements or balance sheet structures.

Swift introduced this shared ledger at Sibos 2025, developed alongside more than 40 global financial institutions. With the network currently connecting over 11,500 entities across 200 markets, the integration is positioned to scale tokenized deposit capabilities for early adopters. Sergey Nazarov, CEO of Chainlink Labs, noted that the infrastructure is designed to help banks launch these capabilities while leveraging Swift’s expansive user base. Seventeen financial institutions are already piloting the system, testing how tokenized deposits can function within current real-time gross settlement frameworks.
