China Approves Jaypirca for Broad CLL and SLL Treatment

The China National Medical Products Administration has authorized the use of Jaypirca, a non-covalent BTK inhibitor, for adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic lymphoma. This approval allows the drug to be administered across all lines of therapy, regardless of a patient's history with previous covalent BTK treatments.

China Approves Jaypirca for Broad CLL and SLL Treatment

Developed by Eli Lilly and commercialized in China by Innovent Biologics, the medication functions through a novel binding mechanism that targets the BTK pathway. The regulatory decision follows results from the global Phase 3 BRUIN clinical program. In the BRUIN CLL-313 study, pirtobrutinib demonstrated an 80.1% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death compared to standard chemoimmunotherapy in treatment-naïve patients.

The BRUIN CLL-314 trial further supported the drug's utility by comparing it directly against ibrutinib in a BTK inhibitor-naïve population. The study confirmed that pirtobrutinib met primary endpoints for noninferiority regarding overall response rates. By securing this broad indication, the therapy offers a new clinical pathway for both newly diagnosed patients and those with relapsed or refractory disease, addressing a critical need for durable, well-tolerated options in hematologic oncology.
