U-wifi and T-Mobile Partner to Combat Post-ACP Connectivity Gap

U-wifi, an Orlando-based fixed wireless provider, is positioning its new service as a direct response to the digital divide exacerbated by the recent loss of the $30 monthly federal subsidy. The company plans to integrate its proprietary FreeU™ platform—which allows users to offset or eliminate their monthly bills by viewing advertisements—with T-Mobile’s national 5G infrastructure to provide a sustainable alternative for budget-conscious consumers.

Beyond basic connectivity, the service includes ProtectU™, a 5G failover solution designed to ensure consistent backup internet for households. Donald Workman, CEO of U-wifi, described the initiative as essential infrastructure, noting that the program targets veterans, job seekers, and SNAP participants who were most affected by the end of the FCC program. Dirk Mosa, SVP at T-Mobile, confirmed the carrier's support for the venture, emphasizing the goal of maintaining high-speed access without financial compromise. Detailed market availability and specific eligibility criteria for the October rollout are expected to be released by U-wifi in the coming weeks.
