California Waste Solutions is integrating EverestLabs AI scanners at its 10th Street facility in Oakland and expanding Pellenc optical-sorting capacity at its San Jose plant. These technologies allow the company to monitor material flow in real-time, recording belt burden and identifying items erroneously headed for disposal. By replacing manual spot-checks with continuous data streams, the company can refine sorting parameters upstream, ensuring higher purity in recovered materials.

This investment complements the city’s recent rollout of Aerbits, a $9.2 million initiative using aerial AI to detect abandoned waste before it becomes a public nuisance. Company leadership emphasizes that effective recycling relies on rigorous identification processes—a step entirely bypassed by illegal dumping. By improving the efficiency of its sorting lines and supporting community cleanup projects, California Waste Solutions aims to mitigate the downstream effects of improper waste disposal while preparing for the implementation of California’s SB 54 and expanded CRV regulations.
