Hanwha Defense USA Announces $2.2 Billion Munitions Plant in Arkansas

The initiative kicked off Monday with the opening of an administrative headquarters at the Arkansas site, signaling the first phase of a broader plan to modernize the U.S. munitions industrial base. Hanwha Defense USA, a subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace, secured the lease solicitation earlier this year following extensive negotiations that spanned international airshows and site visits across the Arkansas Delta.

CEO Michael Coulter stated that the facility aims to strengthen the American defense supply chain by integrating the company’s global manufacturing experience with local labor. For the U.S. Army, the partnership provides a dual benefit: repurposing underutilized land to generate revenue while simultaneously boosting the organic industrial capacity necessary for modern defense requirements. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders noted that the project reinforces the state’s status as a hub for aerospace and defense exports, crediting a multi-year effort involving state officials and the congressional delegation to finalize the agreement.
