Flexible Circuit Technologies Debuts Leak Sensors for AI Cooling

The new assembly addresses the vulnerability of high-density server environments where cooling leaks can cause catastrophic hardware failure. By utilizing a flexible circuit architecture, the product conforms to the geometry of cold plates, manifolds, and quick-disconnect fittings. This allows manufacturers to integrate sensing capabilities directly into the hardware, moving beyond facility-level monitoring to provide granular, zone-specific alerts.

"The rapid growth of liquid-cooled AI infrastructure is creating a new need for thin, compact, highly customized leak-detection solutions," said Ray Cottrell, executive vice president at Flexible Circuit Technologies. The company is currently collaborating with server OEMs and thermal management suppliers to tailor the sensing patterns and connector interfaces to specific cooling architectures. FCT intends to manage the entire lifecycle of the components, from rapid prototyping and design to scalable production, ensuring the sensors fit within the space-constrained environments typical of modern server racks.
