ES Foundry Partners with MIT to Boost U.S. Solar Manufacturing

The collaboration arrives as ES Foundry pivots from its recent expansion to long-term competitiveness. After increasing its annual capacity to 3 GW in July, the company now faces the challenge of sustaining high-performance crystalline solar cell production against global imports. By leveraging MIT’s expertise in digital twins, cybersecurity, and factory-floor AI, the manufacturer intends to optimize yield and equipment performance at its Greenwood site.

For MIT, the partnership offers a live testing ground for its research. Faculty and students will work directly with ES Foundry’s operational data, gaining insight into the realities of 24-hour manufacturing. This bidirectional exchange is designed to address the domestic supply chain bottleneck, where module assembly has surged while cell production remains reliant on overseas sources. By applying these new manufacturing standards, ES Foundry aims to secure its position as a primary supplier for utility-scale and commercial projects across the United States.
