XCMG Turns Construction Site Into Stage for Global Arts Festival

Under the shadow of a 14,000-ton ring crane, over 3,000 employees gathered in Xuzhou on September 19 for the 11th XCMG Staff Arts Festival. The event, broadcast to a global audience of 5.3 million, transformed heavy industrial machinery into an unconventional backdrop for music, dance, and a massive 2,000-drone light show.

The festival, titled "Charming XCMG, Everyone Shines," integrated the company's core product line directly into the production. Crawler and wheeled cranes hoisted massive LED screens, while aerial work platforms supported the stage lighting and sound systems. This staging choice highlighted the company's dual identity as a manufacturing powerhouse and a workplace prioritizing employee culture.

Performances were divided into three acts—"Charming XCMG People," "Now Is the Time to Pursue Our Dreams," and "A Journey in Song"—designed to mirror the professional trajectory of frontline workers. Yang Dongsheng, chairman of XCMG Group and XCMG Machinery, characterized the gathering as a platform for showcasing individual dedication and innovation.

Tracing its origins back to a modest 1992 performance, the festival has expanded alongside the company’s own growth into the world’s third-largest construction machinery manufacturer. Beyond the stage, the event included interactive technology exhibits and a food market, reinforcing the transition from a traditional corporate assembly to a comprehensive cultural celebration. The livestream reached international viewers across 50 media outlets, marking a significant increase in the festival's digital footprint.
