Tencent Music Summit Charts Future for IP in the AI Era

Cussion Kar Shun Pang, Executive Chairman of Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME), opened the event by cautioning that the ease of AI-driven creation makes genuine, high-quality music an increasingly scarce commodity. He emphasized that the industry's long-term health depends on robust IP protection and the development of equitable value-sharing models that prioritize human-led creativity over automated output.

Legal experts and industry stakeholders, including representatives from WIPO and CISAC, advocated for an orderly transition toward AI co-creation. The consensus centered on a triad of principles: authorization, transparency, and compensation. By integrating these guardrails, the industry aims to protect the legitimate interests of rights holders while allowing space for technological innovation. Beyond the technical challenges, the summit explored the expansion of Chinese-language music globally. Discussions underscored that authenticity and deep-rooted cultural identity remain the most potent tools for resonating with international audiences. As TME honored nearly 40 partners for their contributions to content and ecosystem development, the summit signaled a strategic shift toward fostering collaborative, borderless IP that transcends simple distribution.
