Kestrel Group Reports $8.1 Million Loss Amid Program Services Expansion

Austin-based Kestrel Group reported a net loss of $8.1 million for the second quarter of 2026, even as its specialty insurance segment saw significant growth in fee revenue and premium production compared to the previous year.

Kestrel Group Reports $8.1 Million Loss Amid Program Services Expansion

The company’s Program Services segment, which provides fronting services to insurance carriers and program managers, generated $3.7 million in fee revenue—a 587.9% increase over the second quarter of 2025. Total premium produced by these clients reached $109.6 million, up from the same period last year. CEO Luke Ledbetter pointed to these results as evidence of a growing pipeline and improved operational momentum within the segment.

Despite the gains in Program Services, the Legacy Reinsurance segment faced ongoing challenges, recording an underwriting loss of $1.3 million. This performance was impacted by adverse prior-period loss development, largely driven by foreign currency fluctuations, alongside severance-related costs from the company’s international run-off operations. Total general and administrative expenses for the quarter reached $10.5 million, while the company’s book value per common share stood at $14.57 as of June 30, 2026.
