Alibaba Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Alleged Military Ties and AI Theft

Investors who held Alibaba Group Holding Limited stock between June 2025 and June 2026 are now eligible to join a class action lawsuit. The litigation, filed by Robbins LLP, claims the company misled shareholders regarding its links to the Chinese military and its alleged unauthorized access to U.S. artificial intelligence models.

Alibaba Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Alleged Military Ties and AI Theft

The complaint alleges that Alibaba failed to disclose its affiliation with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Under the National Defense Authorization Act, such ties designate a firm as a Chinese military company, exposing it to severe regulatory fallout. Plaintiffs contend that these omissions rendered Alibaba’s public statements about its operations and financial health materially false.

Market volatility followed two major disclosures. On June 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense officially identified Alibaba as a military-linked company, triggering a 3.9% drop in share price over two trading days. Later that month, a Bloomberg report cited allegations from Anthropic, which accused Alibaba of using adversarial distillation to illicitly access and copy U.S.-developed AI technology. Following these revelations, the company's American Depositary Shares fell significantly, closing at $95.07 by June 25, 2026.

Robbins LLP is calling for investors who suffered losses during the designated class period to step forward before the October 5, 2026, deadline for lead plaintiff applications. Participation in the suit does not require out-of-pocket costs, as the firm operates on a contingency fee basis. The lawsuit seeks to hold the company accountable for what attorneys describe as a failure to provide the transparency necessary for fair market operations.
