The diagnostic tool identifies 18 common probiotic species, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Bifidobacterium lactis, across both capsules and powders. By moving species verification in-house, manufacturers reduce the reliance on third-party labs, which historically created production bottlenecks and increased overhead costs. This rapid testing capability allows companies to release products faster while maintaining rigorous scientific standards.
Miguel Villa, Senior Vice President of Industrial Applications for bioMérieux North America, noted that the solution provides manufacturers the necessary confidence to support label integrity in a growing U.S. market. For NOW, the shift represents a move away from costly reference laboratories toward efficient, on-site results. Microbiology Manager Maria Mendres stated that the speed of the new system minimizes waste and eliminates the need to hold inventory while awaiting external verification. The platform is currently available in the United States as part of the company's xPRO™ Program, with plans for a broader international rollout.
