A 1.7-mile temporary circuit winding past the U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument will host the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix this weekend. The race represents a significant milestone, marking the first time the IndyCar series has competed on the National Mall. Scheduled for August 22–23, 2026, the event coincides with celebrations for America's 250th anniversary. Drivers will navigate a technical seven-turn track during the 147-lap contest, which is set to be broadcast live on FOX.

For Vanda Pharmaceuticals, the event serves as a high-profile showcase on home turf. The company, headquartered in Washington, is using the platform to promote NEREUS™, an NK-1 receptor antagonist recently cleared by the FDA for the prevention of motion-induced vomiting. Mihael H. Polymeropoulos, CEO of Vanda, noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to maintaining performance under the intense physical demands of professional racing. Schumacher and the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team face the challenge of mastering a new urban circuit that places the sport's speed against the backdrop of the nation’s most recognizable landmarks.
