Banyan Tree Opens First European Resort in Restored Montenegrin Fortress

The 32-room resort blends its military heritage with contemporary hospitality, utilizing natural stone, aged brass, and solid oak to preserve the fortress's original architectural integrity. Developer Samih Sawiris led the restoration alongside MCM Architecture & Design and the local studio Projektor, ensuring the design respects the site's history while introducing modern amenities. All guest rooms and suites feature Adriatic views, with the Heritage Sky Suites earning distinction as some of the finest in Europe for their integration into the existing stone structure.

Beyond accommodation, the property emphasizes regional immersion and wellness. The Banyan Tree Spa, located within the historic tower, incorporates local botanicals into rituals inspired by the brand’s 8 Pillars of Wellbeing.
