Tysons Senior Living Community Earns Wine Spectator Recognition

Tashi, the signature restaurant at Tysons-based senior living community The Mather, has secured a 2026 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. The accolade highlights a curated cellar of over 100 bottles, marking a rare instance of a senior living facility meeting the rigorous standards typically reserved for fine-dining institutions.

The restaurant’s wine program, overseen by a dedicated sommelier, balances quality production with thematic pairings that rotate monthly to mirror Tashi’s evolving culinary menu. This approach has resonated with residents, as wine sales accounted for 68% of the facility's total beverage revenue in 2026. The selection process favors unique labels often unavailable through standard retail channels, emphasizing a level of exclusivity common in upscale urban dining.

Mary Leary, President and CEO of Mather, noted that the recognition validates the organization’s efforts to elevate the standard of hospitality for older adults. This honor follows a Platinum Plate of Distinction awarded in May by the International Council on Active Aging, further cementing the community’s reputation for high-end service. Beyond the cellar, the dining program integrates details such as luxury teas, locally sourced coffee from M.E. Swing Coffee Roasters, and sustainable waste reduction practices, all designed to support the wellness-focused lifestyle of residents aged 62 and better.
