Huawei Unveils AI-Optical Network Solutions at MWC Shanghai

At the AI-ON Summit in Shanghai, Huawei introduced ten innovative products designed to integrate artificial intelligence with optical infrastructure. By shifting focus toward AI-centric network architectures, the company aims to help global telecommunications operators monetize token-based services and scale high-speed, 10 Gbps broadband connectivity for both households and enterprises.

The summit highlighted a strategic pivot as China transitions from universal gigabit connectivity to a 10G-dominant landscape. Ao Li, Vice President of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, noted that optical networks and AI are now mutually reinforcing, with large models and AI agents accelerating the push toward high-level autonomous network management. Major carriers, including China Mobile, China Telecom, and Zain Jordan, reported that these intelligent upgrades are already enhancing productivity and enabling more proactive, value-added service models.

To support this shift, Huawei has expanded its product portfolio to address specific connectivity bottlenecks. New offerings include AI-FTTR home hubs and Wi-Fi 7 hardware to bolster ultra-gigabit adoption, alongside high-density 50G PON service boards for commercial deployment. For enterprise-grade computing, the company introduced specialized solutions such as Mini OXC and OTN clusters, which are designed to support millisecond-level latency. Kim Jin, Vice President of Huawei’s Optical Business Product Line, emphasized that this convergence of optical and AI technologies is essential for building the all-optical foundations required for the next phase of the digital economy.
