The research, led by Dr. David Braun of the Yale School of Medicine, utilized a cytokine classifier to distinguish between patients likely to respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors and those who would not. Unlike traditional biomarker testing, this method captured positive responses in patients who were otherwise classified as biomarker-negative, suggesting the platform could broaden the population eligible for effective treatment.
Maneesh Arora, founder and CEO of Elephas, emphasized that the platform is designed to function using routine clinical biopsies rather than complex, specialized samples. This scalability aims to move functional diagnostics out of isolated academic centers and into broader clinical practice. By preserving the native tumor microenvironment, the system provides a real-time assessment of how a patient's biology interacts with specific therapies, addressing a critical gap in current oncology care where many patients fail to respond to standard immunotherapy protocols.
