The partnership focuses on scaling the Hyphen Automated Makeline, a system already utilized by major chains such as Chipotle and Cava. This technology automates the assembly of bowl-based meals for digital and kiosk orders, allowing kitchen staff to prioritize in-person service. By integrating Ricoh’s Service Advantage program, Hyphen intends to streamline the logistical challenges of training and maintenance that often prevent smaller tech firms from expanding their footprint.
Restaurant operators are currently facing intense pressure from rising labor and food costs, with over 90% of industry leaders identifying these expenses as significant operational obstacles. Steve Sanders, Vice President of Service Advantage at Ricoh North America, noted that the move is designed to help providers improve both brand consistency and profit margins. By offloading deployment and support to Ricoh, Hyphen expects to accelerate the adoption of its robots, which are currently capable of producing over 200 meals per hour.
