The scope of the event includes 5,500 Medical Baseline customers who rely on electricity for life-sustaining equipment. PG&E staff are conducting in-person outreach to these residents to ensure they have received safety warnings and have backup plans in place. While the outages are intended to prevent electrical equipment from sparking fires, the utility advises households to charge essential devices, secure nonperishable food, and avoid using indoor generators.
To assist those affected, the company is opening more than 40 Community Resource Centers across 25 counties, providing air conditioning, device charging, and bottled water. Residents can check their specific address at the PG&E website, while those needing additional support are encouraged to contact 211. The utility warns that all electrical lines should be treated as live and dangerous throughout the duration of the event.
