The fund, directed by Jonathan Torres, aims to bridge the gap between regional business owners and the financial backing required to scale. By prioritizing values-based underwriting, the organization assesses both the applicant's character and their business plan, offering an alternative to the predatory lending practices that often plague underserved markets. Partner investor Russ Phillips noted that the fund serves a niche for high-ceiling founders who are bankable in ability but not yet on paper.
A pilot cohort of at least five entrepreneurs is scheduled to begin in early 2027. Selected through local referral partners, these founders will receive more than just financing; the model integrates mentorship and professional accountability to ensure long-term sustainability. Torres maintains that while banks may view these investments as high-risk, the greater detriment lies in failing to support local business growth. The firm intends to measure success through job creation and the development of leadership within the Mid-South region, operating under a stewardship framework that emphasizes disciplined growth and community impact.
