The new solution targets the NIJ Level IIIA/HG2 protection requirements while allowing manufacturers to reduce the overall weight of protective vests by up to 25%. According to Joe Hovanec, Arclin’s Vice President of Kevlar EXO, the material offers a 40% improvement in comfort compared to the previous XP K520 standard. By optimizing the fiber structure, the manufacturer has also managed to decrease layer counts and reduce necessary stitching, which streamlines the production process and potentially lowers labor costs for armor makers.
This innovation arrives as the industry shifts toward equipment that prioritizes mobility without compromising trauma reduction. The material is engineered specifically for demanding field conditions where weight is a primary factor in operator fatigue. Arclin has confirmed that the product is now available for global evaluation, positioning the technology as a key upgrade for next-generation personal protection systems.
