Rural King Hosts Pet-O-Ween Costume Contest for Pets and Livestock

The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and run through 2 p.m., with formal costume judging scheduled for 1 p.m. Participants can enter their animals into either the Pet or Livestock category. Beyond the store-level competition, judges will select one ultimate winner from each category across the company's footprint to receive a $500 gift card, with results posted to the retailer's Facebook page.

Winners at the store level will receive a 15-inch XL Billie Goat plush, a tribute to the late Billie Jean Lawyer, a lifelong animal enthusiast. First, second, and third-place finishers will also receive coupons for Purina pet food or Nutrena livestock feed. The store experience includes giveaways for early arrivals, such as a mini plush for the first 50 customers and discounts on select pet treats and canned cat food.

Interim Vice President of Marketing Cody Kay noted that the event serves as a way for the company to celebrate the animals integral to their customers' farms and families. While the event is nationwide, Ohio locations are excluded from the festivities. Shoppers are encouraged to verify participation with their local store before arriving.
