Longwood Gardens Unveils Autumn Chrysanthemum Displays

As crisp air settles over Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Longwood Gardens has launched its seasonal transformation, blending ancient horticultural traditions with modern artistry. From October 2 through November 15, 2026, the estate showcases thousands of sculpted chrysanthemums and vibrant fall foliage, marking the return of its signature autumn programming.

Longwood Gardens Unveils Autumn Chrysanthemum Displays

The centerpiece of this year’s exhibition is the Chrysanthemum Festival, opening October 16 within the East and Main Conservatories. Visitors can traverse a landscape featuring over 5,000 plants, meticulously trained into complex geometric shapes, including spirals and cascading clouds. A notable addition this season is a double chrysanthemum arch, while the Exhibition Hall hosts a display inspired by the Japanese art of suiseki, featuring chrysanthemum forms reaching up to 10 feet in length.

Beyond the floral displays, the estate emphasizes sensory experiences. The Main Fountain Garden continues its illuminated performances through October 31, highlighted by a special October 23 screening of the classic film Nosferatu accompanied by live organ music. Outdoor exploration remains a primary draw, with three distinct treehouses providing elevated vantage points over the changing hues of the estate's maples, oaks, and dawn redwoods. The gardens also offer a robust schedule of educational workshops, ranging from carnivorous plant studies to eco-printing with autumn leaves, ensuring the season serves as both a visual retreat and an opportunity for hands-on learning.
