Bank of America commits $10 million to Boston Children’s expansion

Bank of America is funneling $10 million into a new pediatric behavioral health campus at Franciscan Children’s in Brighton, a project designed to overhaul how the Boston Children’s health system delivers mental health care to children and adolescents facing complex neurodevelopmental and psychiatric challenges.

The grant will facilitate the transformation of the Brighton site, which joined the Boston Children’s network in 2023. The facility is being reimagined as a therapeutic environment featuring single-patient rooms and specialized zones for children with autism and intellectual disabilities. By integrating inpatient, outpatient, and rehabilitation services, the hospital aims to reduce wait times and improve early intervention capabilities across Greater Boston.

Beyond the clinical infrastructure, the project functions as an economic engine for the region. Plans for the campus include the creation of 150 to 200 permanent jobs, supplemented by over 3,320 construction positions throughout the development phase. Kevin B. Churchwell, MD, CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, noted that the funding helps transition the facility from a vision into a tangible site for research and community partnerships. To mark the announcement, bank executives and employees spent the day volunteering with patients, participating in arts and recreational activities at the current facility.
