Gary Payton Joins Lucy Goods to Challenge Tobacco Incumbents

NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton is bringing his trademark defensive intensity to Lucy Goods, anchoring a new marketing campaign designed to disrupt the nicotine industry. By pairing Payton’s unfiltered, competitive reputation against established tobacco giants, the company aims to accelerate its market expansion and retail presence across the United States.

The partnership marks a strategic escalation for the brand, which has secured distribution deals with major convenience chains including Circle K, Wawa, and Sheetz. Since its founding in 2016, Lucy has positioned its nicotine pouches and gum as alternatives to traditional tobacco, a mission that now centers on the clash between Payton’s relentless persona and the industry’s status quo. The collaboration features a series of digital content pieces contrasting the athlete’s aggressive style with the calculated approach of CEO David Renteln.

Public appearances began earlier this summer at events in Las Vegas, including a charity golf tournament and a Power Slap competition. The rollout continues at the NACS Show in Las Vegas, running October 7 through 9, where the company plans to leverage Payton’s profile to capture new demographics. For Payton, the move serves as a direct challenge to long-standing market leaders. "Big tobacco's had this on lock too long," the former Seattle SuperSonics star stated. "I'm coming for them."
