CAS and Novartis Partner to Create AI-Ready Chemistry Database

Scientific research often suffers from data silos, with vital reaction insights trapped in disconnected lab notebooks, shared drives, and disparate partner platforms. This partnership addresses those inefficiencies by applying CAS data transformation services to standardize Novartis’ proprietary records. Once organized, this information will integrate with more than 160 million scientist-curated reactions already held in the CAS database.

The project centers on a custom discovery platform built upon the existing CAS SciFinder architecture. Researchers will gain the ability to query internal experimental data and external scientific literature simultaneously, bridging a gap that has long hindered rapid analysis. Tim Wahlberg, Interim President at CAS, noted that the infrastructure serves as a critical requirement for modern drug discovery workflows, positioning the combined datasets as a high-value resource for future large language models.
