GOFO Charts E-commerce Shift Toward Fragmented Last-Mile Delivery

At the PARCEL Forum 2026 in Orlando, delivery carrier GOFO unveiled a white paper analyzing the splintering of U.S. e-commerce. The report tracks how a growing reliance on diverse fulfillment models and regional providers is permanently altering the logistics landscape once dominated by a few national giants.

GOFO Charts E-commerce Shift Toward Fragmented Last-Mile Delivery

The domestic parcel market reached 23.9 billion packages in 2025, yet the traditional hegemony of UPS, FedEx, and USPS has shifted. While these national carriers maintain a 61% share, the category of regional and alternative providers tracked by ShipMatrix has surged to 2.5 billion packages—a 13% year-over-year increase. This growth reflects a broader movement toward specialized fulfillment, where independent brands and marketplaces require tailored, flexible logistics rather than one-size-fits-all shipping.

Vincent D’Amato, GOFO’s Chief Sales Officer, argued during a panel discussion that regional carriers are no longer peripheral players but essential components of a modern, resilient network. By integrating intelligent automation into routing and sortation, companies are better equipped to handle the disparate volume patterns seen in modern cross-border and platform-based commerce. The GOFO report reinforces this by utilizing case studies from companies like TikTok and Walmart Marketplace to demonstrate how shippers now balance national networks with localized, technology-driven solutions to maintain service speed and operational agility.
