BNP Paribas Taps Google Cloud for Five-Year Agentic AI Expansion

The collaboration grants BNP Paribas access to Google Cloud’s AI-optimized infrastructure and the Gemini Enterprise suite. Initial implementation focuses on the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) division, where Gemini models will be integrated into the existing LLM@CIB assistant—a tool currently utilized by more than 65,000 employees. The bank plans to deploy AI agents to handle specialized tasks, including the drafting of corporate credit memos and streamlining activities in sales, trading, and research.

Beyond institutional banking, the bank is scaling AI in its retail sector. Nickel, the group’s payment account business, already utilizes Gemini as the foundation for its 'Nickel Assist' platform, which supports 200 customer advisers in resolving client inquiries. Marc Camus, Group Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas, noted that the multi-model approach allows the firm to balance innovation with rigorous control requirements. Every AI agent deployed will be authenticated and restricted to specific data access, ensuring that all interactions remain under constant monitoring within the bank's established security framework.
