Before his conviction, Pantoja had an interest in metal fabrication, but poor influences steered him away from his goals. During his time behind bars, he taught himself welding, only to witness robotic systems gradually automate his tasks. This realization prompted a change in direction; he identified electrical work as a field that would always demand the precision of human hands. Upon his release in 2023, he completed the Electrician Technician program at UEI College’s Sacramento campus.
Beyond the technical curriculum, the daily academic routine served as a crucial bridge back to civilian life, helping him shed an institutional mindset. His instructor, Felden, noted that Pantoja’s focus and accountability set a standard for his peers. Today, Pantoja is employed by Burgelectric, working on critical infrastructure projects across Northern California, including high-voltage substations and commercial electrical systems. By securing steady employment immediately after graduation, he successfully avoided the high recidivism rates that often plague those leaving the federal system.
