Oracle Debuts Java 27 With Focus on Post-Quantum Security and AI

Oracle has officially released Java 27, introducing a suite of nine JDK Enhancement Proposals aimed at hardening enterprise applications against future cryptographic threats. The update prioritizes post-quantum security measures and improved AI integration, marking a significant step in the platform's long-term strategy for high-performance, secure computing.

The latest version introduces hybrid key exchange for TLS 1.3, providing a necessary defense against "harvest now, decrypt later" cyberattacks. By integrating these post-quantum capabilities, Oracle intends to safeguard business-critical data as organizations transition toward more complex, agentic AI systems. Georges Saab, senior vice president of the Oracle Java Platform, noted that the release serves as a stable foundation for modern enterprise workloads while establishing a clear roadmap for future long-term support versions.

Beyond security, the update delivers substantial runtime and productivity gains. Notable additions include the 12th incubator of the Vector API for accelerated AI inference and JFR in-process data redaction to improve production system safety. The release also shifts the G1 garbage collector to the default setting across all environments, aiming to simplify application modernization. Alongside the core JDK, Oracle updated the Java Verified Portfolio, bringing Helidon 27 for microservices and JavaFX 27 for interactive interfaces into the fold. Early access for JDK 28 is already underway, offering developers a preview of Project Valhalla and its efforts to unify Java primitives and objects.
