Lyon Biennale 2026: A Citywide Journey Through Dreams

Across 11 distinct venues, the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art opened its doors on September 19, inviting the public to explore nearly 400 works by 120 international artists. Curated by Catherine Nichols, the exhibition titled "Passing from One Dream to Another" runs through December 13, 2026.

The event transforms the Lyon metropolitan area into a sprawling gallery, utilizing major museums like the Museum of Contemporary Art (macLYON) and the Museum of Fine Arts alongside unexpected industrial sites. The primary hub, Les Grandes Locos, anchors the exhibition, while the Musée des Tissus returns to the public circuit specifically for the occasion. Visitors are encouraged to chart their own path through the city, with the Biennale Pass granting access to every location.

Catherine Nichols frames this edition as an investigation into human connection and social transformation, asking how collective storytelling can reshape modern existence. This philosophical inquiry aligns with broader discussions on technology and humanism, underscored by a partnership with Artprice founder Thierry Ehrmann. The Biennale remains focused on accessibility, offering entry to children under 15 and specific student groups, while implementing new easy-to-read labeling to accommodate a wide range of attendees.
