Anonymous $125 Million Gift to Fuel Jersey Shore Medical Center Expansion

The donation stands as one of the largest healthcare contributions in the United States this year and the most significant of its kind in New Jersey. The capital is earmarked for a major expansion of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, a facility that Lloyd transformed into a premier academic medical center during his tenure as president and eventually co-CEO of the network. A new pavilion will bear his name to commemorate his legacy.

Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, noted that the donor’s decision to forgo personal branding for the project is highly unusual in an era when nine-figure gifts typically carry the benefactor's name. As a not-for-profit system, the network relies on such philanthropy to bridge the gap between standard insurance reimbursements and the high costs of building critical care infrastructure, recruiting specialists, and funding clinical trials.

This gift serves as a cornerstone for the network's broader $1 billion "Be the Difference" campaign. The funds will support a master facility plan that includes a new critical care tower and 24 operating rooms at the Neptune campus. By investing in these facilities, the network aims to solidify its position as a regional hub for Level I trauma care and specialized medicine, ensuring that local families do not need to travel out of state for world-class treatment.
