Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort Shifts to Local Ownership

The Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa is returning to independent local control, marking a strategic pivot for the historic Paradise Valley property. A joint partnership between Berger Holdings and RJ Hospitality will spearhead a multi-million-dollar renovation, aiming to modernize the iconic 53-acre desert destination while preserving its long-standing regional character.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort Shifts to Local Ownership

Starting in the summer of 2027, the resort will launch a comprehensive interior refresh of all 110 guest rooms and casitas, a project slated for completion by September. Following this, the focus will shift in 2028 to the property's culinary venues and the Sanctuary Spa, ensuring the infrastructure keeps pace with the resort's luxury reputation. Design firm Hart+Howerton has been tapped to lead the architectural transformation.

Managing Director Laura McIver emphasized that the shift to locally rooted ownership ensures that future capital investments remain aligned with the community’s heritage. The property, which originated as a 1950s tennis ranch, currently operates as a hub for wellness and upscale hospitality. By securing its independence, the ownership group intends to anchor the resort’s status as a premier American Southwest destination for the next half-century, building upon recent upgrades to its meetings and events facilities.
