NCCN Backs Research to Close Metastatic Prostate Cancer Treatment Gaps

Many patients with metastatic prostate cancer currently miss out on optimal treatments due to fragmented care, geographic hurdles, and inconsistent clinical practices. By addressing these disparities, the NCCN aims to replace uneven standards with scalable, evidence-based strategies that improve long-term outcomes. NCCN CEO Crystal S. Denlinger emphasized that these projects prioritize sustainability, ensuring that findings can be applied well beyond individual institutions.

The selected research projects include Dr. Changchuan Jiang’s work at UT Southwestern on biomarker action loops, and Dr. Paul Leger’s multilevel intervention program at Georgetown University. Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Liu at Northwestern focuses on reducing polypharmacy burdens for better treatment tolerability, while Dr. Kosj Yamoah at Moffitt Cancer Center is developing a closed-loop pathway for molecular testing during bone radiotherapy. A committee of peer experts selected these recipients, who have two years to complete their initiatives.
