The installation at Europe’s largest biomass-based combined heat and power plant is designed to achieve net-negative emissions. Central to the process is the integration of Alfa Laval’s Ziepack gas-gas interchangers and plate-and-frame heat exchangers. These components are essential for managing the intense thermal requirements of capturing and liquefying flue gas emissions.
Beyond simple sequestration, the project emphasizes energy circularity. Egil Nybakk, Director of BECCS at Stockholm Exergi, noted that the heat reclaimed through Alfa Laval’s equipment will be redirected into the city's existing district heating network. This recovery process enhances the facility’s overall efficiency, turning a demanding industrial challenge into a viable model for large-scale carbon removal. Thomas Møller, President of Alfa Laval’s Energy Division, described the deployment as a critical step in proving the commercial viability of thermal energy recovery in the energy transition.
