Wix Faces Class Action Lawsuit Following AI Strategy Missteps

A federal securities class action has been filed against Wix.com Ltd. in the Northern District of Illinois, accusing the company of misleading investors regarding the financial viability and competitive performance of its AI-driven initiatives, Base44 and Harmony, which preceded a sharp 27% decline in share price this past May.

Wix Faces Class Action Lawsuit Following AI Strategy Missteps

The lawsuit, Yappi v. Wix.com Ltd., covers investors who held securities between February 19, 2025, and May 12, 2026. Plaintiffs allege that Wix overstated the benefits of its AI tools while failing to disclose the immense costs required to bring them to market. By May 2026, these aggressive investments caused non-GAAP operating expenses to surge 46% year-over-year, effectively collapsing the company's non-GAAP operating margin from 21% to 5%.

During its May 13 earnings call, management admitted that the Harmony platform suffered from significant functional gaps and missing capabilities. These technical shortcomings, coupled with a massive 88% increase in sales and marketing expenditures, prompted a market selloff that erased over $1.1 billion from the company's valuation. Hagens Berman, the firm leading the investigation, contends that Wix intentionally obscured the negative financial impact of these projects as it struggled to defend its core business against the rising tide of alternative AI-based website development tools.
