Seeing Machines pivots automotive AI expertise toward humanoid robotics

With over eight million vehicles already using its occupant monitoring systems, Canberra-based Seeing Machines is expanding into the robotics sector. The company's new Physical AI Platform aims to move beyond simple object recognition, teaching autonomous machines to interpret human behavior and spatial relationships in real-time.

The platform leverages 25 years of human factors research to move robotics away from rigid task execution and toward fluid interaction. While conventional systems typically focus on identifying static objects, this technology constructs a dynamic, three-dimensional perception map that allows robots to anticipate risks and navigate unpredictable human environments.

CEO Paul McGlone describes the shift as a logical progression of the company’s core mission. As robots migrate from controlled laboratory settings into hospitals, homes, and industrial floors, the ability to read social cues and environmental context becomes a critical safety requirement. This transition applies the company’s proven automotive safety logic to a broader range of sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, and aged care, where collaborative workflows demand high-level situational awareness.
