Health Net Grant Targets Compton Students for Health Advocacy Program

The expansion introduces the program to Compton High School, Dominguez High School, and Whaley Middle School. Students selected for the initiative will undergo training in mental health awareness and leadership, learning how to connect their peers with local health resources, including Enhanced Care Management services. This model relies on a peer-to-peer approach that has already reached 20,000 students across 12 other schools in Los Angeles County.

Dorothy Seleski, President of Medi-Cal at Health Net, noted that the program empowers young people to address health challenges within their own neighborhoods. Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell echoed this sentiment, describing the partnership as a vital step toward improving health outcomes for local youth. The project also includes annual Youth-to-Youth Health Summits, which will serve as a platform for students from across the county to exchange best practices and measure improvements in health literacy.
