The new system distinguishes itself through a portable design that eliminates the need for bulky CO2 tanks or external power sources. This allows clinicians to perform cryobiopsies and airway interventions across diverse hospital environments, including intensive care units, emergency departments, and standard operating rooms. By facilitating procedures such as tissue acquisition, foreign body removal, and tumor debulking, the device provides a versatile alternative to conventional forceps biopsies, which are often limited by tissue compression damage.
Seiji Kuramoto, head of the Surgical and Interventional Solutions Division at Olympus, noted that the collaboration pairs Olympus’ established ultrasound expertise with Endocision’s cryotechnology to improve diagnostic accuracy. Dr. Moishe Liberman, CEO of Endocision, emphasized that the system is engineered for compatibility with both traditional and robotic bronchoscopy platforms. The companies will debut the hardware at the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology annual conference in Denver this August.
